Default TVGOS-based Sony DVR began receiving an erroneous time stamp

On the morning of Apr 7, 2009, my TVGOS-based Sony DVR began receiving an erroneous time stamp (40.5 minutes late), which is limiting the usefulness of TVGOS. My understanding is that the local CBS affiliate here in Madison, Wisconsin, WISC-TV, elected not to participate in transmitting the TV Guide time stamp; and that may be the source of my problem. However, my DVR is connected via a CableCard to Charter Communications cable. Should Charter be supplying the time stamp?

What terminology can we use to quickly make the appropriate personnel aware of this problem, and to whom should we direct our complaints?

It's my understanding that the FCC mandates the time stamp in the licensing agreement of each broadcaster. The time stamp would be located within the program and system information protocol (PSIP). You could contact the local CBS affiliate and speak to the engineering department. My guess is it will be fixed as soon as the engineers complete the hardware upgrades going on across the US. The DTV transition will probably take months to smooth out all the issues. To help others with this issue please post back with your results/fix when you figure it out or post back other questions here.

I can't yet report success, but the following links lead to some reports of success.

Looks like it's a common problem.

GGP, have you tried contacting Gemstar yet at 800-386-7380? Direct Link to their tech support: TV Guide On Screen Support - Macrovision Their direct email for tech support is Ce_customer_support@tvguide.com

I respectfully wrote the station manager (Tom Bier tbier@wisctv.com) at WISC-TV and reported that my tv did not find any guide data on their channel.

He replied that they were in negotiations with TVGUIDE and hoped to offer the service in the near future. Perhaps more emails to him might show that the public is aware of the problem and might help speed the negotiations along.

I did try Macrovision's email link. Quoted below is their response. The web site leads to a ZIP-code lookup, which says that Charter cable carries the information in my locale and that questions should go to Charter.

"Thank you for contacting TV Guide Partner Technical Support. This email address is for supporting our Consumer Electronics partners only. If this inquiry is regarding the Digital Transition please consult our Digital Transition web site located at www.macrovision.com/dtv for regular updates.

hmm, you'd think they'd try to send you in the right direction. I'd try to get help from Charter next.
