What are some useful tips on buying used Xbox360??

I love playing video games on my friend's gaming console. Planning to buy an used gaming console for my own and pretty much interested in Xbox360. Before any purchase I wanna know, everything from head to toe. Just wondering some helpful tips on buying used Xbox360.
Please pass on tips and suggestions from your personal experience.
