Default Showtime vs. HBO

If you had to choose between the two, what would it be?

Showtime - Dexter, Weeds, Brotherhood, Californiacation, Nurse Jackie

HBO - True Blood, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hung, Entourage

I'm leaning towards Showtime, but dang I love Weeds too.

If HBO still had Soprano's, it would be an easy choice for me.

Hmm.... Showtime also has The Tudors, Secret Diary of a Call Girl and State of the Union (while HBO also offers Big Love). I think that puts Showtime over the top.

Remember, True Blood and the others are available via Netflix.

Actually, for that matter, the Showtime series are actually available via Netflix, and you can watch them online (i.e., without digging into your allotment of X discs at a time). However, that doesn't work if you're hearing impaired as online video does not yet support closed captions.

Showtime's orginal programming is superb, kind of like HBO was a few years back. You've mentioned The Tudors, which I've seen bits and pieces of but haven't sat down and watched an episode yet. I forgot to mention Big Love, though I'm not a regular watcher of it, it is still good.

<-- Not a netflix or Blockbuster subscriber anymore. I feel like I'm in the minority on A/V forums these days, but gosh darnit, I need to save some money.

Bicker, have there been any legislative efforts to get CC standard implemented over streaming tv shows/movies? Wonder why Hulu.com hasn't grasped ahold of that yet seeing as how they're owned by a conglomerate of networks.

My vote goes for HBO, but I'm a boxing fan too. Jim Lampley is one of my favorite announcers - commentators. Any boxing fans?

I like Dexter but Trueblood and Entourage are at the top of my must watch list every weekend before anything else.

Honestly not sure I've watched a fight since Tyson was in his prime. As a kid it was great watching Ali / Frasier / Foreman.

Those guys were all great, heck I was an avid watcher of Foreman all the way up to his last bout in 97. Definite heavy weight fan here. Welcome to the forum!
