Apparently there was supposed to be a tribute to Donna Summer in the finale of American Idol. I don't watch Idol any longer, but the tribute seems natural. Reportedly, it was canned by the network though at the last minute, even though some rehearsals had been held. It seems odd to me that a show like Idol couldn't put together a satisfactory tribute to Summer, though.
