We caught the second-to-last ep of Royal Pains last night. Some of the medical scenes were a bit icky.

But the show remains really strong. USA and Syfy have had a really great summer.
We spent the rest of the night catching up on Smallville Season 8. We've just seen Doomsday for the first time. (I understand Doomsday features prominently in the remaining 10 episodes of the season). This is exactly what I envisioned
Dan Simmons' Shrike
looks like. I'd be surprised if no one called "foul" on that one.
Tonight we have a new episode of Eureka and a new episode of Psych to watch. Time permitting, we'll continue to work through our backlog of Smallville episodes. There were two episodes we didn't have. One we had to pick up from Amazon Unbox, and the other was re-broadcast last night, so we've got a straight shot to the end of the season now. We'll finish Season 8 by next weekend for sure.
After that, the well runs dry. For three weeks, we're going to have to try milking our DVD/BD collection. I've convinced my wife to consider not only watching the movies we recently bought on BD (Harry Potter 1-5, Blade Runner, Push, Planet Earth), which she's more than happy to do (
she really wanted to see HP and Planet Earth on Blu-ray; Blade Runner was my pick; Push just was the BD I bought to test out my new player), but also to watch them a couple of times, the additional viewings with commentaries enabled. As long as the commentaries are subtitled, we'll be okay. That's something that you generally don't get on DVD, but I think they do do that on BD. Let's hope so.
When I realized we were going to run dry, I considered re-subscribing to Netflix. However, there just isn't enough sitting in our queue to make that worthwhile.
I'm not sure how we ran dry actually. I thought I had this all figured out. What seems to have happened is that we gave up on more programs than I thought we would (The Listener, Dark Blue, Sarah Connor Chronicles, Make It or Break It), and we buzzed through Smallville Seasons 7 and 8 much faster than I anticipated.
I'm going to keep my eye on the specials and premieres and such (as I always do, obviously, given that I post a summary of what I find each week

) to see if there is anything else we can add into the mix. I'm tempted to pick up Ghost Whisperer when it starts on Syfy. I just don't know if it is something we'll like. Is it more like Medium (which we like)? or more like Touched by an Angel (which we don't)?
