I am totally amazed at the generosity of others. There are so many families in dire straits in this economy. Yes, many are in that condition as a result of the choices they make. But, there are others who try hard and still need help. Either way, to be able to get so many people to contribute their time, money and resources to help those in need says that there is still hope for mankind.
We are living in a world where people are dying of starvation and some are even getting shot on the street. Road rage seems to be at an all time high because we are all so busy. Yet when called upon, it is so meaningful when we all pull together to help those less fortunate. We may not be thrilled with the particular host of Extreme Makeover at the moment. But the message the show brings forth is worth it all.

Perhaps I'm the only one, but I actually LOVE Ty. (I've loved him since the first time I saw him on Trading Spaces.)
Is he in your face with that bullhorn? Absolutely, I won't argue with that at all, but you also see his other side, several times throughout the show.
~On the bus, when he's telling the others about where they're going and who they're helping
~Each and everytime he's talking face to face with the family. When he first meets them and then throughout the reveal, especially when explaining his reasoning behind his secret room
~and whenever he's one on one with the camera, talking about the project.
So will I stop watching because he's loud with his megaphone? Absolutely not. Would I stop watching if he turned down the loudness? Nope!
The concept of the story is amazing but even more amazing is that they are able to pull off the final construction in 7 days. I'm sure that they do alot of the project before they pull into town, especially the permits required in the city/town and coordinating with all the utilities etc, but it's still unreal how well everyone involved works together.

Ty IS one of the main factors behind this show's success. He definitely has one of those love him/hate him personalities, but I will say that he seems sincere with what he says and does.

After a while, Ty Pennington started to wear on me and become obnoxious.

LOL trust me, that is the normal, most common reaction to Ty. I can't help but get the sense that he's not truly as compassionate as he tries to come off, it just seems so forced an insincere.
But I did love this show when it first came out as well. But, I'm sick of them giving these people mansions instead of a realistic, comfortable place to live. Like the episode for Hurricane Katrina, sure it's great that they helped that one family - but if they had spread the money out a bit, they could have helped many more people. So, while these people live in their new mansion, they're surrounded by people who are still picking their lives and memories out of scraps covered in mud with no where to sleep. They throw out or just demolish all the old furniture/appliances - why in the frick do they not donate all those things??

I do like the show and I think it's great about what they do for these familes that are in such a desperate need. I still do like Ty, but then again I don't watch the show religiously anymore like I use to.

I'm afraid its lost its luster for me, too. Of course when I do watch it, I cry like a baby at the end!

I am so glad that I am not the only one that thinks that this is past its prime. I am about sick of Ty and his darn bull horn. It was a good thing when it first came out but now it has lost its appeal and I am afraid that more people will try to take advantage of the generosity of others. There will be more stories like the one here. THat is just a terrible shame!

I love Ty and the design team! I have loved "Home Extreme Makeover" since the first day it was on. I cry every single show.
They do wonders with a house. It is just amazing how artistic they are. They do such good. I wish the every community would come together like they do when ABC is around.
I had not heard that story about the family who lost their house to foreclosure, BUT it isn't like they took their money and spent it on drugs or something like that. They used it for collateral to start a small business. People do that all the time. Times are tough now, so businesses are going to fold. It is happening to the best of people. I am not so sure I would have gambled my home, but for the bank to agree to the loan--he would have had to have a business plan? right? Really sad though.
I will continue watching for as long as they continue helping.

I watch it only when nothing else is on. I do like the show, but it is the same thing over and over. I always end up crying in the end when the families move that bus!
Wouldn't that be exciting if they came to your town and built a house?

This show is a godsend to television. I do agree that Ty is a attention lover, but he does deserve it for the jobs he helps complete. Extreme Makeover has done so much for the families in need. I wish there were more shows like this one.
