USA Network summer ratings bests all other cable networks, ever
USA Network has been the number one cable network in US for a while, but this past summer of 09 was the best ratings for any cable network since ratings companies started keeping track.
Quote:
The network averaged just over 3.6 million total viewers in summer 2009. That easily bests the previous holder Disney Channel, which averaged 3.1 million total viewers during the summer of 2007.
The network was boosted to its new heights by the surprise launch of Royal Pains, which quickly became a bona fide hit, while Burn Notice returned to become the best performing series in network history, ending with a bang. The season finale was the highest rated show in USA history, drawing 9.1 million viewers. Overall, USA is up 21% from last summer in primetime.

NBC Universal is on a roll. In the same link above, Syfy channel has hadrecord ratings since rebranding. Mostly because of Warehouse 13

Each episode seems to surpass the last in the ratings, with the August 11 episode reaching 4.4 million total viewers when live plus 7 data is factored in.

Yup. And there are reasons to believe that NBC's (broadcast network's) cost-saving Leno strategy will be a winner too -- not necessarily measured by ratings, but rather measured in profit. Figure there is more and more investment in cable, where there are two revenue streams (advertising and subscription fees), and less and less investment in broadcast, where there is generally only one revenue stream for the network.

I think Syfy is finally becoming the channel we really want it to be. Warehouse 13 was excellent. Eureka is a fantastic show. Caprica looks like it could be another great show, perhaps as great as BSG. And the mini-series have been great too, The Lost Room, and Tin Man; and the upcoming mini-series, Alice, looks to be another winner.
