I doubt there's anything available for win98 to do what you want to do. RealPlayer will record youtube vids, but not on that ancient OS.

If you can run Firefox, there's an add-on called Download Helper that will save the video files into a predetermined directory, by clicking an icon on the tool or status bar.
DownloadHelper - Media download Firefox extension
If you can't run Firefox, you might consider putting a stripped down version of the Linux Operating System on that old machine. You should consider a different OS, if for nothing else but security reasons. Win 98 is literally full of security holes.

Actually this is Win98SE compatible and works also with XP/Vista. it's called 'Moyea Flash Video Downloader' and is freeware and all you do is copy and paste the youtube link to the video to the downloader (there's a browser built-in for that) and it downloads. it's a little cumbersome with full-length tv shows (can be up to five separate downloads for a full 1-hour series episode) but it's nice to use a laptop as a DVR to play back later if you don't have internet (i have to rely on a hotspot a half mile away so i save a few to play later when nothing's on OTA).
Not sure if it's legal though. so be cautious.

I use a program that is a Firefox extension called FlashGot. Very easy to use. When you are on a site with a Flash file, just right click , make your selection and save.

tongyun,
I don't think the latest 3x versions of Firefox will run on windows 98. Older versions aren't secure and are not recommended.

EUREKA, Eureka! Thank you soooo much. I read this and went right over to download and try it out. It works, and it works beautifully. Thanks so much!
