Real world distance tests? - Page 2

So the board consensus for new seems to be 30-40 miles tops for atsc-mph? Too early to tell, but this technology seems like a day late and a dollar short.

I don't know what the distance limit is, just that we know that it works out to 30 miles for certain. I don't personally know anyone with a Mobile DTV receiver that I can ask, I'm just going by what I read.

Board consensus is a consensus of one and it's what Trip read somewhere. Lets not start any Urban Legends.

Wasn't trying too, but for the sake of conversation on mobile dtv (which there is a lack of on the technical aspects) I guess I made an early assumption. my appologies.

There are virtually no receivers in the hands of viewers, so real world is yet to happen, save the one article Trip found, read and shared they said they were getting 30 miles from a 444 meter 1MW ERP UHF station, not exactly worst case. Still if true impressive.

Here is the standard on Wikipedia, not sure how up to date it is because I not even close to informed on the standard. Trip might know if this is a good starting place. Warning even though Wikipedia generally start simple, this article gets deep fast.

Don't worry about it, that's all we're doing here is discussing a technology that isn't quite available yet on the market but it is important not to make any conclusions too early yet.

I probably jumped too fast I just wanted to not let the thread get past the current state of affairs.

This is a very new application of existing technology.

I still think the make or break of this technology will if it's included in phones. Toady's handheld crowd doesn't like to carry 10 devices anymore. But with phones having a semi competing service, will they even look at it?

The Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC) is predicting that devices will be available in the first quarter of 2010. Just in time to miss the Christmas shopping season.

"Devices" is the only thing mentioned here from OMVC Executive Director Anne Schelle on BroadcastingandCable.com.
