Default I'm NOT 'falling' back an hour and neither should anyone

Anyone who knows me knows that one of my strongest beliefs, as an American, is my (and every other American's) freedom to choose for one's self. to be an individual. to NOT allow anyone to shove their crap down my throat.

And that same thing goes for this abomination known as the bi-annual time change. people say this and that about an 'extra' hour' and guess what? the day is still 24-hours bud....all it done gone and did was give you the sense that it happened. it's a damn clock! it doesn't magically give you an 'extra hour' of daylight, it was always there. if there was no clock in your home you probably wouldn't have noticed the change at all.

This is where i don't understand. i do understand that clocks today (which i don't use, i don't use digital anything; all my clocks are mechanical) change automagically but the truth is that you probably have one or two older models that you have to manually change each time. and for what? who said it has to be done?!

I refuse to 'fall back 'this year. and so should everyone else. there is no way in hell the Feds can arrest you and put you into temporal jail. there is no enforced law at all. they say 'time to change clocks!' and everyone, like sheep, goes right along as if the world would suddenly stop spinning and the day never end should they not do it. as if it were a matter of life or death.

Why?! why should any person change the clocks back? what forces any private or public business (like our resort office/banks/retail outlets,etc) to change them? why should they?!

Why should we? i mean really now. i have refused to go along with this felgercarb any longer. so far i've set my converters (the ones which use clocks) to Eastern Standard with the DST feature OFF. (that makes it Central Daylight Time forever because the setting to change it each time is disabled) and i am leaving all my clocks alone. and everyone else should. there's no excuse for changing them causing such headaches. there stands to be no real proof it saves any energy in this new digital world. in fact it never did. the so-called 'extra hour' of daylight you have no lights on is entirely contradicted by the 'extra hour' of lights you have to use in the afternoon

There is NO LAW which requires ANYONE to change their clocks back/forth. there has been zero arrests nor the seizing of household clocks by the Government for any individual or business who refuses to do so. so again, why do we alllow them to invade us this way?

If the forum here is going to update my local time in the forum itself, please try to find some way to keep it set the way it's been this summer. i'm NOT accepting this any longer.

God Bless America.

[/end rant]

It saves a bit of energy usage but it is a pain in the rear to adjust clocks.

The only clocks I had to change at all were:
* The car
* The microwave
* The oven
* Two wall clocks (living room and bedroom)

Everything else I have automatically changed as it was supposed to. Computers. Gotta love 'em!

(DTVuser2009 -- I didn't bother with the RV's clocks ... for whatever reason there are FIVE in there ... figured since I'm not breaking it out again until DST starts again in April, there's no reason to mess with 'em!)

why change them in the first place? where is it written that any business or individual has to? heck a business could create their own time if they wanted to. i just don't see the benefit here and just cannot surmise why the entire world acts as if it were a matter of life or death. like it has to be done. apparently Arizona is a tad smarter than the rest of the US of A

Sure, it's a day on the calendar. but there's plenty of unobserved holidays on a calendar. i mean does anyone really celebrate sundown anymore? surely not the entire USA save two states. no one has to really do anything with the clock. let alone force that on everyone. if you want to change your clock one hour ahead or back, fine. your choice. just dont' force it on everyone. it's not natural nor healthy to have to adjust and plus i cannot imagine anyone wanting to go home after work in the dark!

But what do i know? i've only wondered if it's the same reason why some idiot plays World of Warcraft all night long sucking all our hotspot's bandwidth. i mean it's a stupid game.

Actually, I have to admit to having a clock in the bathroom that I sometimes don't change all year. There's an automatic clock that always changes on the wrong week because we've messed with DST. I hate changing the clocks, too.

I say pick one (either Standard or DST) and stick with it period.

Or adjust it one half hour and leave it there. best of both worlds.

Or do what works for pilots. switch to Universal (GMT/Zulu) time. no more time zone jet lag when travelling.

Since it's not something one would be arrested for for not following, i fail to understand why we keep with this archaic system that served its purpose in WWI and WWII and that was done.

I guess it's just one of those things you do so often you never bother to wonder why you do it when you don't have to.

I don't understand why we keep doing so. i mean it'd be fine if one or more people who actually are in support of it change, but why every state save Arizona and Hawaii?

I may be old fashioned but crikey! i move forward on a few things. this is just another that we have to start changing. from numerous google searches it seems more are for either ending DST entirely or just staying with it all the time (so one reaps all the daylight possible) or go to Zulu. either way it's something in dire need of updating to some system that doesn't require twice year clock changes. it's nuts!

The theory of farmers benefiting from it is also been disproven. many are firmly against it. the cows don't care if it's 8AM or 7AM. and neither do the roosters.

Zulu makes sense actually. 12-hour day. it gets daylight at 12 and dark at 12. much better than a 1-hour thing. base the work schedules on 12 hours you got a great system, and it's time zone independent. time zones never made sense, either.

I have the same gripe about Groundhog Day. sure, it was a Penn State tradition, but why not keep it where it started, and not make the entire world all in an uproar at some marmot who cannot predict the weather!

I mean people around here actually believe that he can forecast the end of (or the extension of)winter. sorry, buddy, winter still ends in 6 weeks (or three months here) regardless of the rodent seeing its shadow. i really feel sorry for the poor thing. it should be cruelty to animals to shine tons of spotlights around him and then yank him out. the animal just wants to sleep! i would bite the idiots hand if i were in his position
