We look beyond the traditional open source OS of choice to other free options such BSD, OpenSolaris, HaikuOS, ReactOS, and PureDarwin.

I played with them a little bit a few years ago. They have a long way to go for the PC user. The hardware drivers are slim to none. They would be good if someone was looking for an OS for a server.

Better than CentOS ? I love that distro for servers. If there is a better one I need to look next time I upgrade or set up a server. CentOS just runs, takes good to standard Linux add ons. I don't think I would run CentOS at home, not suggesting that for those that don't know there is a difference in server and desktop OS systems.

CentOS will also run on about an server hardware. After all the list of drivers on a server is normally shorter than a desktop.

You left out FreeDOS (great for playing those old DOS games/apps)

Not to mention abandonware OS such as OS/2 and CP/M among others.

Apple even gives away older copies of their Mac OS. up to version 8 i believe.
