You have to shop around, you might find a good deal. My partner has Bose speakers and he loves it! He says the sound quality is perfect.

I once found a nice TV set at the thrift store that had 'BOSE' sound built-in; sadly, it was bad. the speakers had rotted and only the cones remained

So i kinda passed on it. used to be a Zenith big screen too. it would've been a $25 TV with BOSE sound, but i guess it would be just as worthless to brag about as a 20-year old Mercedes Benz. brand doesn't matter unless you buy it new. i wouldn't want to be that 'hip' anyways.

Those who buy a really beat up Mercedes and then go to the West Side and brag about their new 'Benz are setting up a great recipe for an ass-whoopin' lol!

This was really interesting to read. I've been wondering the same thing about these speakers and what I find curious is that this is pretty split field. It sounds like they aren't the Mercedes of the field, just one of several contenders.

Long ago they were the Rolls Royce of the market. They still carry that prestige in their name. However I doubt they still rate on top like you say. There have been so many changes in speakers. Back when then were King, all other speakers were the same as they have been since 1940s. So Bose pulled ahead with a hefty price tag easily.

A lot and I do mean a lot of AV forums puke on Bose as if they're the biggest piece of overpriced speakers ever made. I see a lot of posts that always make me wonder if other brands are hiring people to go out and bad mouth their competitors.

I found quality speakers from Klipsch, Polk Audio and Bose. A good deal is what the buyer perceives a good deal to be. A good deal is all about the perception of the buyer. What is worth the money to one may not be worth the money to another.

Someone told me decades ago a good speaker is one that sounds good for the money you want to pay. I remember many eons ago I bought a set of cheap Advent speakers that I loved. There were 10% of the Bose friends had bought.

If you think, you want to invest the money in Bose just do it.

I buy speakers not because of their name. I listen to them and if the speakers sounds good, I buy them.

Same here. and most of what sounds good to me costs 1/4 that of a BOSE set. right now my KOSS headphones do quite well for only $6 vs. BOSE's $500 set.
