Question 3 hour time out for converter boxes

all the new digital to analog converter boxes shut off after 3 hours of viewing to meet the gov. energy compliance requirements, therefore, you miss the last 10 mins of the sport event your recording to view later. are there any converters that shut off after say 4, 5 or 6 hours. is there a code or a dip switch we can change to extend this time. in the lighting industry the timed out shut off of light fixtures is 4 hours, can the converters be changed to at least meet this requirement in order to capture an entire game.

Check your menu options for the Auto-Shut down option. Most boxes come with the ability to turn that feature off.

For anyone interested, here is the Energy Star page on Converter boxes: http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=dta.pr_dta

Quote:
DTA converter boxes that have earned the ENERGY STAR consume no more than 8 watts in On Mode and 1 watt in Sleep Mode and automatically power down after 4 hours or less of user inactivity.
If all DTA converter boxes sold in the U.S. met the ENERGY STAR specification, over the lifetime of the products Americans could save approximately 13 billion kWh and $1 billion in energy costs — reducing greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking more than 1 million cars off the road.

you should be able to set the time in the setup or even cut it off
