Default First DTV Switchover today for Wilmington, NC

Television broadcast stations have made the switch to DTV today in Wilmington, North Carolina. The switch was part of a major coordinated effort to test DTV in a single market ahead of the national digital transition date of February 17th, 2009.

It'll be interesting to watch how the people of Wilmington react over the next week or two. Local broadcast stations have held DTV seminars as well as town officials providing educational materials (Wilmington National DTV Transition) well ahead of the early switchover date.

More information about the switchover in Wilmington, NC can be found at: InternetNews Realtime IT News - Dawn of the Digital Television Era

So, how did the transition go for them? I bet there were a ton of complaints.

The FCC released a report of the calls glowing about how people didn't have too many problems on day 1. But remember, this was a town that was probably more heavily blanketed than say a town of 15 in Iowa.

But if you are curious Here is the first 6 days and reported complaints to a number the FCC setup to help with transition.

Of course the government report is going to claim "success". This town is hardly going to be an example of how the real digital transition goes in February 2009.
