I can't have an outdoor antenna; would you look at my tvfool info?
So, I went the other day and bought the best TV I could possibly afford, which wasn't so great, but it's at least an SDTV.
I also purchased a "good" indoor antenna that the salesperson insisted would work "fine" for me.
I basically can't get much more of anything than what I had on my crappy 15-year-old analog set with rabbit ears. I can pick up maybe a couple stations' virtual channels, perhaps one other one, but that's about it. So, I still have less than about ten watchable channels, and this is really annoying.
Here's my point: I live in an apartment. There is no "shared" master antenna thing. People who can afford it get a satellite and attach it to their patios and such. **Obviously I can't go erecting a big outdoor antenna, so, I don't know how the situation is going to get a lot better.** My coupon for my analog TV (assuming it arrives and is not rejected at the store, like I've heard some say) is supposed to come around March 27th.
Here is my situation I am dealing with. Not a lot of big stations in this immediate area, please have a look at tvfool to see my circumstance, my zip is 75601.
Yes, a couple of those are close, but they aren't worth a hoot stations. I don't know what to do. I'm disabled, can't get out of the house, and am stuck here. I can't afford cable or I'd already have it. I was optimistic about the whole change, thinking it might help those of us who didn't have much money so that we could also enjoy television, but it doesn't look like this is going to worth anything, seeing as how in my area, an indoor antenna is only going to do so much. I guess I could always choose between cable and my food/medications, huh. (signed, Bitter...)
But if possible do look at my info on tvfool, zip 75601 and see what you think, I'd appreciate it. (Because I certainly can't make sense of it; I just know that I'm not getting more than a handful or so of channels.) Thanks !

If you could do me a favor, go to tvfool.com and enter your address as well as your zip code. Then, when it shows the Signal Analysis click on the "Post Transition - Only Digital".
After the new Analysis shows up, right click on the "radar" view and select properties. A new box will pop up. About half way down it says "Address". Highlight everything to the right of it, right click again and copy, and come back here.
Type in the following without the quotes and ofcourse not the stuff in the middle of the IMG. ""
Right click and paste the address that you copied.

Oh, and where in your apartment can you install the antenna? As is what direction will it most likely be facing and how far off of the ground.

Oh, sorry, and the indoor antenna will be a paltry 4 or 5 off the ground.

you only have 7 channels LOS (line of sight). Everything else is getting blocked.

An indoor antenna isn't going to cut it for you when you're 20 miles away, unless you try something like the Antennas Direct DB2. It's the only one that might pick up a few channels out of that lineup, but you've got some major obstacles to overcome.

As far as my indoor antenna, it likely will be in western-most part of the apartment, and typically facing west, though I don't mind a bit of moving it around some if needed.

That is exactly what I needed you to post. I was worried that I mgiht have messed up my instuctions.
From what I see, for you to be able to pick up 10 channels right now, you are doing good!! Leave that antenna where it is at. Wait for the converter box to show up and plug everything in. Then see what happens. Might be surprised what the extra power of the box will bring it.
On another note, if I were you I would see about the chances of getting a community antenna erected. I'll supply the viagra. Just kidding.
Let us know how things go and I hope to hear that on March 28th after you have purchased your converter box that things are going good for you.

Really do appreciate the comments and advice. I did get my coupons for my converter boxes, and I wasn't planning on getting a box for my new tv, but hey, they'll be cheap. Might as well try, and no doubt someone would need it later if I didn't.
If I don't freaking freak the freak out and just say hey, I've been needing to go on a diet lately, and finally break down and get a satellite service
I do indeed get a few stations, believe it or not. Although the few analog channels you can pick up here have been dropping like flies... fortunately they popped right up on digital, so that's cool.

mount a antennas direct 91-xg on the balcony and tilt it up 15 degrees to shoot over the obstacles. for those stations that are 1 edge. a Antenna craft U8000 will do for the LOS stations. problem is to get all you will need to turn the antenna to lock the signals which would mean a rotator. ok there is a cheap little antenna from Lava that works good for LOs has built in rotator and pre amp you could try it LAVA A-2605 from www.summittsource.com my mom gets good service on stations 65 miles with it
