Default 20002-2003 Sony TV

i have a sony widescreen tv purchase in 02–03. on the back it have HDTV ready.but when i look at the tv it is still in the regular format before the new change.but my neighbor have a hdtv ready and some of the station are hd beautiful. do I need a box? thanks for your help.

Yes, HDTV Ready means that you need an HDTV tuner added to it , not just a dtv converter box. You can also subscribe to cable tv and hook up one of their HDTV receivers to it.
