Default No local HD programs as promised

When I purchase Direct TV programming the dealer promised me that I will get all the local channels in HD. I dropped Dish and went to Direct for the local HD channels. Guess what, no local channels in HD. I called Direct and they said that after 6/12/09 all the local channels will be in HD. This didn't happen and I called Direct again and they gave no reason for no local HD. I told them that I wanted to drop Direct because of this misleading information and they said it would cost me $300 for early termination. Can anyone help me in this matter, because Direct sure doesn't want too. Thank you

Mountain Man, Welcome to the DTVUSA Forum. Did you purchase and pay for the HD capability?

Mountain Man, enter your zipcode here: DIRECTV - HD Local Channels just to see if DirecTV offers local HD in your area. Hope your installer didn't sell you something that he couldn't give you.

Was the local HD service warranted? If not, you won't have any choice but to call them every day until they get the HD channels you watch into the lineup.

They (DirecTV) played that game or nearly the same in Gainesville FL market.

I can't remember the outcome. You could check the Gainesville FL thread at AVS, it might lend some information.

I've never gotten warm-fuzzies working with DirecTV people. The company seems extremely slick. I don't blame them; they're in business to make money, of course, and having really strong and professional-looking marketing that sells their positive characteristics and effectively hides their negative characteristics is completely appropriate. By the same token, lying (even just verbally) is inexcusable. I don't put it past DirecTV, based on what I know, but this does underscore the most important thing for consumers to keep in mind when making a purchase: Always get everything in writing. Anything anyone is unwilling to put in writing is something you can expect will either turn out not to be true, or will be readily subject to change. If some aspect of how they've sold the product or service to you is of critical importance to your purchasing decision, get them to commit to it in writing or do without making the purchase.

I would contact Directv customer service and offer them the opportunity to give you a discount concession equal to the HD monthly fee. They should continue to give you all of the HD programming contracted and concede the additional cost until the local HD programming is made available to you. If that fails I would contact the Consumer Protection Agency in your state. Make sure to include Directv and the name of the subcontractor that installed the system in your complaint.
