Question Converter needed for DVD/CD Player w/Video Cassete

I have an HDTV and do not require a Converter for this. However, I cannot record any programs and have been told that I need a Converter Box for this. Is this true, as I have never heard of this problem before.

cincybob, Welcome to the DTVUSA Forum. Your VCR does not recognize DTV signals. Because VCRs are analog you will need to connect a CECB to the VCR for recording.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is "CECB"?

A CECB is a coupon eligible converter box. Also for members in the DTVUSA Forum, Jay has included a nice feature. If you ever want to know the meaning of an acronym in a post, simply scroll over it with your mouse and it will display the definition.

Also, if you buy a CECB and hook it to your VCR it will only record in SD (standard definition).

If you want to record off air (OTA) you will need to buy a DVR that can receive the new ATSC OTA standards. Or buy a tuner card for your PC is your PC is fast enough (3GHz or faster about).
