That's the issue. my VCR has composite inputs and that can feed to the TV through the VCR. that's not the problem. the problem was i don't know where to find a
VGA->composite converter. i tried Best Buy but nope. they had
VGA-->
HDMI or
DVI but not composite. they thought i was nuts.
So i was asking here to find out if such a gadget exists. if anything i can get it online (if it exists).
I guess a better question would be 'is there a
HDMI/
DVI -->composite converter?' that way i can get the converter from
VGA-->
HDMI/
DVI and then hook that output to the DHMI/
DVI-->composite then the composite --> VCR and use that with the TV. that would mean buying two things but i care more about the end result than how many gadgets it takes.
And sure, i can 'buy an
HDTV' but i don't like HDTVs. i like my consoles. there ARE consoles out at the store with S-Video and my other laptop with the same recorded stuff (i transferred it to the netbook as the netbook was an upgrade) has S-Video but the option to use it is greyed out in the display properties. (the s-video equipped laptop is a Compaq Presario 700 w/XP SP3)
OH and i understand that
VGA won't give me audio output. i already have that one covered with the built-in surround stereo in my home and a patch cable. both the computers' sound output and the input on the built-in stereo are standard headphone style plugs, and patch cables are at radioshack
