Default HDTV Question

I bought a converter box before the digital transition for my older TV but now I'm thinking about buying a new HDTV. Will I still need the converter box? Is there anything else I need to concern myself with before I buy in case there's another transition? I should have just broke down and bought another TV before the transition but there weren't that many deals. Now Best Buy is having a huge mark down on their HDTVs this weekend.

All new TVs have digital tuners built in, so no, you won't need an external tuner. And the converter box is only Standard Definition, not HD, so you definitely don't want to use it on an HDTV.

You might find an HD monitor that has no tuner in it, but those are usually displayed where computers are sold .

What's your budget? LCDs usually consume less power than Plasmas. LEDs consume even less power than LCDs (True for most LED models). I'd look at a minimum of 1080i for resolution.

1080p (not 1080i) is pretty much standard now, for large flat panel TVs.
