Two of Hulu's major partners are looking into adding subscription services to the site.

New York - Two of the major partners in Hulu -- News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch and NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker - hinted at an investor conference here Monday that they are investigating the possibility of further monetizing the online video venture, including charging a subscription for the service.

"Are we looking at it with a view toward adding subscription services and pay per view? Yes we are," Murdoch said of the Hulu venture. "No decisions have been made yet."
The success will totally depend on how they do it; if the subscription is for what is currently offered-- no thanks. But, consider shows like Its Always Sunny. Previously, they had all seasons with the new episode posted as they aired. They changed so it is only 5 episodes are available at a time. If, the subscription model gave me all the shows with all the seasons (every episode) on demand, that is something worth paying something for. The price point would ultimately control though.
Figure that they are going to start charging for most of what they offer from those sources. The price-point for a commercial free 42 minute presentation is pegged at $1.99 SD and $3.99 HD, at Amazon.com. Hulu probably won't knock that down much.

Megavideo is already pay only. at least that's what it tries to tell ya. they partnered with iReel and nothing is there unless one pays over $30 a month. i get that with satellite no thanks.
