Default Program info on samsung , not on sony (TV guide)

I have a Samsung 46" LCD model LN46A850 and a Sony XBR6 32". The samsung gets all info about the program that is on. The Sony will get only the tiltle of the program. For example if CSI Miami is on: the Sony will show CSI Miami next to the channel# but there is no description of the show if you hit info. The Samsung gives all info (title and description). The SOnyhas a built in TV Guide. I called Sony and they said that it is because of the digital transition and TVGuide hasnt converted which makes no sense. I was actually getting the info before so I dont know what happened. Ive tried all settings on the tv and no luck. I have no cable or dish. Anybody know why this is? Thanks a million.

Are you talking about their program guides for over-the-air television or do you have cable or satellite?

I would think it has to be sony. I have a Samsung 32" and have no problems with info or anything on the screen, so that makes me think it's a Sony issue. I'd call back and try to get an escalated CSR.

The Samsung is probably getting its program guide info from each individual station. The Sony uses a different system called TVGOS. All TVGOS data is usually broadcast by only one station in your area. If you can't get that station or if there's no station in your area broadcasting the TVGOS data, the Sony may only show the name of the program.

Find the station that's supposed to be broadcasting TVGOS data in your area, here.

If a station is listed, contact them and make sure they're broadcasting the signal. If so, you may need to reset your TV Guide On-Screen feature in your TV. For Sonys, this is usually accomplished by going into the TVGOS setup options and changing the local ZIP Code to: 00000.
After setting the guide's ZIP Code to 00000, turn the TV OFF.
Wait a few minutes and turn it back on.
Hit the GUIDE button and follow the setup wizard.
You should be prompted to put in your corrrect ZIP Code.
If not, go back to the guide options and enter the ZIP manually.

thanks for all the replies. The resetting to 00000 for a zip code then putting in my zip worked. BUT!, the wierd thing is I cant get channel 8 (cbs) to provide a description on my samsung. It has always been that way though so I figured it's an issue with that channel. The other channels are fine. On my Sony , the description for channel 8 is showing the info. By description , I mean what the show or movie is about.
