dtv.com is not the government's $40 dtv coupon website, it's actually a private business that's purchased dtv.com for use to promote satellite tv products. The government's official $40 tv converter box coupon website is located at http://www.dtv2009.gov. The FCC's DTV information webpage is located at www.dtv.gov.

A recent news article "exposes" dtv.com as a "fishy website" that's trying to confuse consumers into thinking their clicking on to the government's dtv coupon webpage page.

Do you think dtv.com is a fishy website, or was it just a smart marketing move to purchase that domain name?

My own thoughts? "Satellite for TV PC" clearly states dtv.com's business and intention to promote it's products. Although the DFW News story clearly makes a point about dtv.com not being the governments website (which is a good thing), I think it may have gone a bit too far by calling the website "fishy".

Other news agencies are starting to run the dtv.com story.

Suprisingly, the Better Business Bureau went on the record when it said the following statement:

Quote:
"The company is trying to confuse consumers, or take advantage of consumers that would be going to DTV.gov," said David Beasley with the Dallas Better Business Bureau.

I have to disagree with you on this one Jay. The guy that owns dtv.com is profiting from people trying to upgrade their televisions due to a government mandate. I'm not sure if he's breaking a law exactly, but morally, it's just wrong. DTV is confusing, and even ordering the dtv coupon is hard enough for some folks who aren't use to operating a computer. dtv.com is making it even tougher for these folks.
