Is there anything we can do to prolong its lifespan? Or should i say, lets wait for some innovations from our manufacturers?...Do you think, if it happens, what can we expect from them, any idea?

Keep them cool and clean. My oldest 100% working LCD is over 20 years old. That compares to the longevity of the old CRT sets. I've seen many listed on eBay from the same era as mine with no problems. They've been around for quite some time.

I personally think that you got your money's worth. My boyfriend and I just bought a new TV only a couple of months ago and of course we are hoping that will last us at least 10 years...and the TV that we had before in the family room *we just moved it to the bedroom* is almost 5 years old and it still works perfect. We will use those tvs until they completely die on us :-)

I guess to be on the safe side, a plasma or an LCD TV would still be great after 10 years. That's assuming none of the parts were cheaply outsource somewhere making them durable and withstand normal usage for at least a decade.

That's really the issue: Cheap televisions = cheap components and/or cheap service.

I have had mine for 10 years and it is still in excellent condition. I am very happy with it. Mine is from Sharp and I think their tvs are excellent.
