Help with TV/VCR set up - Page 2

What do you mean exactly by: "If you try to connect any other cable type (component or anything) the system will not work."

We've done that coax hook up (and a few other variations) and nothing works. That set up is what used to work before. What you didn't mention is the RCA jacks. What about them?

I'm actually resigned at this point to the thing just not working. We've got the DVD connected normally now (without the HDMI), so at least it works. I'm bummed, though. I like to record off of TV.

It's the few other variations that will derail getting this working. In your previous comment you quoted the DVD player doesn't and never did work. Are we still trouble shooting the same issue you started the thread with?

Most electronic components don't internal cross inputs/outputs. You cannot input a coaxial signal and output a component. They aren't connected.

Sorry -- two different DVDs. The one that doesn't work is the the DVD that is part of the DVR5000 which is a combo DVD/VCR unit. It's what I'm trying to connect. My sister also gave me a separate DVD unit which is mentioned in all of this as well. It's the one she attached the HDMI to in order to get it to work, but then we figured out how to get it connected so now that separate unit does work. The VCR still doesn't do squat.
