I have the WD-57831 and I'm not exactly happy about the bulb life on these Mitsubishi DLP TVs. I have owned the TV for just a little over 2 years and had to spend $125 to buy a replacement bulb and spend about an hour installing it. Had I known that the bulbs were only going to last that long, I would have never bought it.

HT, do you leave your TV on at night when you go to sleep? Heavier usage than the normal user?

We use the TV for about 2-3 hours a day on average. From what I've read on these TVs, it's pretty normal to replace the battery every 2 years or so. To me, it's unreasonable and definitely a lesson learned.

I know for fact that in the past mitsubishi used osram lamps were not as effective as philips lamps are, there is a huge gap in durability between them.

known for a fact that "original compatible lamps" (such as osram) are set to last between 2-3 hours versus the philips which last 6 to 8 hours

other symptoms may include a ballast issue if the television makes a humming sound or a whirling sound too
