Default Energy Efficient HDTVs

Good article on which current HDTVs are energy efficient. Saves you $ on your electric bill.

Quote:
PCMag GreenTech Approved HDTVs must surpass Energy Star 3.0 standards by at least 30 percent when the TV is operated at its default settings. For example, a 50-inch set earns an Energy Star mark if it consumes less than 318 watts of electricity in one month (five hours on, and 19 hours in standby mode each day) at its default picture settings; we award the GreenTech Approval only if that TV consumes 222 watts or less under the same conditions. (Note: Estimated operating costs are based on 5 hours of daily use at $0.1135 per kWh, the 2008 national average.)

That is impressive for a plasma. I thought the LCDs had them beat by a mile in this area....just the way the technology works. Flourescent tubes are cheaper to run. LEDs maybe even cheaper.

I thought the same thing about Plasma too. Actually, I always thought energy efficiency HDTVs went in this order from worst to best:

3. Plasma
2. LCD
1. LED

but I guess there are other variables where Plasma can actually outperform LCD and LED on power consumption.
