The hdmi port on the tv does not work anymore. What is the next best cable to use for optimum reception from a WOW cable box? Would you component cables or use the rg port on the tv with an hdmi going to the cable box?

Use component. The picture quality will be just as good as HDMI if the settings are adjusted properly on the LG. With Verizon Fios, I actually prefer component over HDMI as the cable box has more functionality when connected that way.
