    Default DirecTV Genie Questions

I'm thinking about upgrading to the Genie DVR with DirecTV. I have some questions on how the whole system works,

    1. Can you record in one room and watch in another?

    2. Can you watch two DVR recorded shows in two different rooms at the same time?

    3. How many Mini Genie's can be connected to the system?

    4. How fast is the on-screen guide on the Mini Genies? Some of the older DirecTV DVRs were kind of slow.

    5. How much is the new Genie DVR and Mini Genies for a brand new contract vs upgrading from an existing contract that has 1 year left?

I am upgrading to Genie. I have an existing LBN antenna with two cables, can one of the cables be used with the new SWM antenna or does a new cable need to be run?

Absolutely. Everything is stored on the Genie. The minis are simply thin clients that simply operate the Genie.

    2. Can you watch two DVR recorded shows in two different rooms at the same time?
    Absolutely.

    3. How many Mini Genie's can be connected to the system?
I think 8 max with a max of 3 operating at any time.

    4. How fast is the on-screen guide on the Mini Genies? Some of the older DirecTV DVRs were kind of slow.
It's kind of slow. It's definitely faster on the genie itself. But it's usable.

You need to call them and negotiate. Otherwise you'll be paying full price. COnsensus is that with a "deal" you'll be paying $99 plus install.

You need SWiM for sure. Genie does not work with legacy. They'll most likely install a new dish with a SWiM LNB.
