    Is Verizon Fios any good?

I'm getting a lot of literature from them and would like to know what current or past subscribers think. I don't even know what Fios is.

    Hi leonard,

FiOS internet has some of the fastest residential internet speeds available. The only faster speeds I've seen were from Paxio (1Gbit/s) which is available in very few areas.

FiOS TV has the best quality around since they only put 2HD signals per 6MHz QAM. This means that they do not apply additional compression to HD signals.

The software on their DVRs and their whole home DVR solution is pretty good as well. They have a lot of features including widgets for weather, twitter and facebook. They also have remote control apps for Android phones on Verizon wireless. They may have one for iPhone since VZW now has the iPhone.

So yeah I'd say they're good. The only bad thing about them is that they are not available everywhere.

A friend of mine in Northern NJ has the service and he likes it a lot better than his old Comcast service.

As for not knowing what FiOS is, simply put they are running fiber optic cable all the way to your home. There are three different colors of light on the fiber, one each for internet, TV and phone. They use a device called an Optical Network Terminal or ONT to take the information from the light sent over the fiber and convert it into internet, TV and phone signals. The TV is delivered over coax from the ONT just like regular digital cable.

Wonder what that internet package costs per month.

It's $245. However when you consider that Verizon is charging $195 for 150Mbps, Paxio's price isn't so bad at all.

Great explanation. Now I know what to consider. I should have known it was fiber optics. I lost my brain.

i"m also debating between fios & dtv I"ve done quite a bit of research online about the pluses & minuses of both companies & i was leaning towards fios after seeing the channel lineup which is pretty impressive, then i saw that verizon sold to frontier & it doesn"t look like they"ll support fios cause there raising there rates & trying to push people towards dtv so i don"t know so this just makes dtv more appealing.

I think you mean DirecTV. DirecTV costs money and gives you a large channel selection. DTV (digital television) is free, and depending on where you are can give you 0-70 channels.
