• "Charlie's Angels" Green-lit, "Undercovers" Axed

ABC has given Charlie's Angels a 'go' with production on the new TV show scheduled to begin in January 2011. The new version of Charlie's Angels is apparently following the aura of the movies rather than the iconic TV series that starred Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Jaclyn Smith.

According to the Televisionary Blog, the three Angels will be Kate Prince, an African-American, Abby Sampson, the Caucasian, and Marisa Valdez, the Latina element. The site says that Kate is a vegetarian athlete, Abby the youngest and an expert at Krav Maga, and Marisa an orphaned weapons expert.

NBC's spy drama, Undercovers, is the latest show to get the ax from the Fall TV season. While there was definite chemistry between the lead actors and an overall solid storyline, the ratings didn't hold up enough to convince NBC to continue the series.

Starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Boris Kodjoe as married couple, Samantha and Steven Bloom, the premise of the show centered around two spies falling in love, getting married, and quiting the Central Intelligence Agency; but the CIA sends another agent, Carlton Shaw as played by Gerald McRaney, to convince them to come back, and which they do. McRaney's role was terrific, but his scenes were limited to two or three per show.

Per the network, Undercovers will continue to air for three more weeks. The final three shows that have already been filmed will air at some unknown time in the future.

As for the actors' futures, Mbatha-Raw's name as been bandied around as a potential for the newest incarnation of Charlie's Angels. Though only speculation, her role as Samantha Bloom has proven she has what it takes to be one of the Angels.
