Fans of Beverly Hills Cop, are in for a possible treat. An upcoming series spins-off from the Detroit cop comedy that began in '84.
Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold will return briefly to set the tone, and then Brandon T. Jackson, a Deroit Michigan native with an uncredited part in Eminem's 8 Mile, will take over and play the role of Axel's son Aaron. Eddie Murphy will stay on to executive produce the comedy.
Airing on CBS, Paramount Pictures and Sony TV are to co-produce (pending a deal), with Barry Sonnenfeld to direct the pilot. Reinhold, Murphy, and Gil Hill (Inspector Todd) are the only 3 stars that were in all 3 of the Beverly Hills Cop movies. However it looks to be just the 2 (Reinhold, Murphy) that will be cameoing in the series, which will be a continuation of the movies, casting Reinhold with another promotion.
Also in the series: David Denman (Drop Dead Diva, The Office), Presciliana Esparolini (The Shield), Mary-Margaret Humes (Dawson's Creek), Christine Lahti (The Harvey Korman Show, Chicago Hope, Jack & Bobby, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Hawaii Five-0), Andy McDermott, James Shanklin, and others.
Brandon T. Jackson (Aaron Foley) is known for his roles in Tropic Thunder in 2008, Fast & Furious in 2009, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief in 2010, and Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son in 2011, among others.
A final decision of whether the pilot episode will result in a full series will be known in May this year.
