I've been able to "save" some of the Apex Converter boxes. Usually the coil capacitors go bad. The capacitors are cheap bad to begin with, so I upgrade to higher voltage capacitors. I have also discovered an occasional diode goes bad. Turn the board over and witness the hot spot will tell you where to start first. The top of the "can" capacitors will swell and/or leak. They are easy to spot! Hope this helps!
