Have you tried to power cycle the box? (unplugging it for 30 seconds)

:welcome: tiffany,

The unregistered guest may be spot-on but I suggest you unplug it for a full minute or longer. How old is your converter box? Some brand/models are known to be "problematic" but they usually fail within the first couple months after their purchase. Good luck!

Yea, mine lasted a whole 7 days. Man, those things were junk.

yes doesnt work
You basically have the take the box apart and replace a CAPACITOR (470 uf 35v). I bought the piece from Radio Schack for $1.58....doesn't hurt to try. The problem I have now is how in the world do I actually go about replacing it? I guess I need a soldering iron or some other tool which I don't have. I going now to search on google for ways to replace this thing without the iron.

You WILL need a solder iron. Try Harbor Freight or Radio shack, pretty cheap. Also a bit of solder and solder wick.

If you decide to do it, we can walk you through it. If you know someone with the tool and skills, it's a one minute job.

Its the same tiime period for me - 2 weeks ago mine stopped working. When I aim the remote, the red light flashes but won't change to green. I've unplugged several times. Was the box only good for 2 years? I will buy the capacitor and be back for assistance. Thank you.

Mine got "No Signal"

It turns on and when I power cycled it the way customer service told me to do. By the way, APEX has no customer service; they did not help me or offer to replace or fix. They told me to buy a new one, another piece of their junk?

Still no signal, I will try to change the Cap, no risk now.

Guest,

I suggest you buy a Channel Master-7000 converter box which is built in Bulgaria rather than in red China.

Jim
Jim,

Sorry, but the CM-7000 has been discontinued (though it is a good choice if you can find one). I'm currently watching the "Big Heavy Rock Hour" on "The Cool TV" on a Digital Stream Converter Box. Great picture, and mine is over 3 years old and works fine.

I have the exact problem...but how do you know WHICH capacitor?

Hi there

I have the same issue with the red light always on. If you try to power on it flashes quickly and keeping your finger on the power also causes it to flash and you hear this high pitched thing coming from the power supply side. I'll gladly replace it but I don't know what part to get? Is it the yellow thingie?

Mine did the same thing and i tried to call Apex, but didn't get an answer.
The price of a converter box is around $50. The cost of a new 32" HDTV - 720p, LED, is under $200 on sale. Converter boxes are poorly built and don't seem to last long, and your old SD analog TV is going to need replacement soon, anyway.

Do the math, and buy a new TV.
