Best 55" HDTVs for the Super Bowl

The Super Bowl is the highest level of professional American football and one of the most well loved championship games in the US. The 47th edition of the Super Bowl is coming in a month, on February 3, and will be played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The game will be transmitted by CBS in the US, and will be simulcast in Canada by CTV. According to Associated press, Beyonce is expected to be the main act performed for the Superbowl Half Time Show, with the full line-up of Destiny's Child and her husband Jay-Z listed as potential collaborations.

Since the Super Bowl is just around the corner, you probably want to watch it on the best and largest TV available. Unfortunately, some of the best TVs of 2013 won't be out until much later this year. In the meantime, however, retailers will likely start putting forth some attractive HDTV sales. In fact, along with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the month leading up to the Super Bowl has been dubbed the best time of the year for buying a new TV. Amazon, for example, has already launched a new deal on Panasonic HDTVs, that is due to expire on January 26.

In the 55 inch range, Amazon is offering 4 different budget friendly plasma TV models. The 55-inch TC-P55ST50 1080p 600Hz full HD 3D plasma Panasonic Viera, for only $1,199, is one such example. Some of the highlights of this model include a 960 Hz Clear Motion rate, built-in Wi-Fi with web browser, Infinite Black Pro panel, and 1 year manufacturer's warranty.

Interestingly, in order to view the price of this item (and other Panasonic HDTVs on sale), potential customers must first add it to their Amazon shopping carts, purportedly because the price offered by Amazon is actually lower than Panasonic's "minimum advertised price". However, Amazon users are not required to actually buy this product, as it can be removed from the shopping cart after viewing the price.

For customers looking for an ultra-thin LED, the edge-lit Razor LED Smart 3D Vizio M3D550KD is inexpensive at only $1,244.72 on Amazon. This TV comes with Theater 3D for crisp and clear visuals, 4 pairs of 3D glasses, built in Wi-Fi, a 2-sided remote with keyboard, and 1080p full HD. Buyers have praised its price-quality ratio, user friendly set up, and picture and sound quality.

The energy-efficient LG Cinema Screen 55LM6700 LED with Smart TV has been lauded for its six pairs of 3D glasses and good picture quality, but has been criticized for its "quirky remote". Amazon sells the 240 Hz version at great price – only $1,342 for the last 19 units available. This is a major discount from its original price of $2,519.99.

The Sony Bravia KDL-55HX850 is not exactly a 55 inch TV, with its 54.6 inch display, but it comes close enough to qualify for this list. It is pricey, at $2,521.77, and only 2 units are left in Amazon's stock as of this writing, but with its many top-end features, most Amazon customers consider it is well worth its price. Its features include Pro-grade detail, precise motion clarity with Motionflow XR 960, dynamic edge LED backlight for better contrast and color, multiple apps through Sony Entertainment, as well as thin LED and frameless design with Corning's Gorilla Glass.

The 55-inch Samsung UN55ES8000F Slim 3D LED is a gorgeous looking piece of equipment, and it comes with an ambitious interface, great contrast and sharp colors. The model has been criticized for its tricky voice and touchpad controls, however. Amazon currently sells it for 2,497.99, down 27% from its original price of $3,419. Its most attractive features include built-in Wi-Fi and camera, full HD with 2D and 3D, thin LED design, and the cutting edge voice and motion controlled interface.

For sports and fast action, Plasma is the winner, hands down. I have also heard a lot of sports fans say that a 720p picture is better than 1080i, the action seems smoother.

But what do I know, I am not a sports fan...
