lostinPA,

As far as I know, all currently manufactured light-duty rotors have plastic gears and are prone to fail, especially when loaded with large antennas like your HBU-55. You could buy a (costly) medium-duty rotor intended for Ham Radio antennas or use a 1970s-1980s Alliance U-series rotor with metal gears available here: Norm's Rotor Service - Sales, Service and parts for Ham Radio antenna rotators; antenna rotor service; parts for antenna rotors

I have installed many of them over the years and I never had a failure.

Geez ... $199.00 for a new/restored Alliance U-110 rotor (with metal gears) that will last you a lifetime seems like a heck of a good deal compared to "cheap" Chinese-built rotors with plastic gears that cost $130 and up. You get what you pay for.
