My kid had a bout of time out rage and took out the remote to the DTV Pal converter box we have. This thing doesn't have buttons to work it. What can I do beside toss the thing and buy a new converter box?

A universal remote can be had for pretty cheap. DTVpal uses the same remote codes as Dish Network recievers, and also uses the same remotes. I often find used dish receivers and remotes at my local thrift store under $5. You should be able to find a universal remote for under $10 at wal-mart.

It should be crime to toss out a working DTVpal- they don't make them any more, and you would be disappointed with any available replacement. The program guide alone was worth the price I paid... If you don't want yours I'll adopt it!

replacing a broken dtv pal remote

Hi Daniel,
Hope you're still around. I've just registered so I can't PM you and I'd like to find out about replacing the remote for my dtvpal. I used the box once and it worked great. The next time I went to use it, the remote wouldn't interact with the box at all. I tried calling support but they weren't any help. Since the cable company took away the remaining channels last nite at 1am, I pulled out the dtvpal again to give it a try but with no luck. I put in new batteries and even opened up the case to see if I could find any reason for the contacts to not work. Since I'm new here, I'm not sure how else to communicate with you. Thanks for your help on this,

The DTVpal can use a standard Dish Network remote control, or you can buy a universal remote and use the program code for Dish Network.

Dan,

I also just registered, so I can't PM either. I have a DTVPAL with a missing remote. I used a phillips universal remote for a while which worked until the buttons on it broke. The new phillips remote doesn't seem to work at all. Just bought a 6.4 ir/uhf pro dish network remote from a place called "the dish guys" . I can't seem to get it to work the DVR at all. It brings up the system info if I press the reset button and the light on the dvr flashes if I press other buttons, but it doesn't do anything else. HELP!!!

Not long ago I gave away one of my DTVPals via Freecycle and totally forgot about the remote. Poor gal had to make a second trip to get the thing.

Turning on DTVPal with a different DISH remote

Is anybody still monitoring this thread? Our DTVPal remote broke via a similar means. I have another DISH remote that looks a lot like the DTVPal remote. However, it is 6.3 IR instead of 5.3 IR. Should that matter? I just can't seem to turn the DTVPal back on. The power light flickers when I try to hit power after pressing the Aux button, but nothing when I hit the SAT power button (in the position of the PAL button on our old remote). Does anybody know what I will need to do in order to turn our DTVPal on again? We love it! It's the best. We simply need to turn it on and I think that I can re-program the rest.

Thanks,

Bruce
