Can AT&T service get any worse? - DirecTV

I just spent 45 minutes just trying to find out what equipment I was expected to return to cancel my service. How is this possible? I visited an AT&T store, was on the chat portion of the website, and then had to wait on hold for another 30+ minutes. No one was able to help me. AT&T has the WORST customer service of any company I have EVER dealt with, including those companies located in developing countries where I have traveled extensively for work.
