Can I buy a cable modem rather than rent one from Comcast? - XFinity

#1
And, if so, which one should I get?

I need a cable modem for watching premium channels.
The Comcast modem I have now is a Motorola DCT700/US.
What I like about it is that it's about 5 1/2" x 8 1/2".

The last time it needed replacing, they gave me one that was bigger than an old VCR, saying it was all they had in stock.
I took it back into the local branch as soon as I could and traded it in for this small one.
Other than size, I don't care what model I get, although the cheaper, the better.

I'm very non-techie.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of what to get or DO I have to keep renting from Comcast?
