Question: Can I just buy a DVR and connect it to my Cox Cable?

I live in a large apartment complex and simply have a coax cable plugged from the wall, into a cheap splitter I bought, and then more coax cable into my TVs. So I can watch two different channels in two different rooms. I have no decoder boxes or anything inside my apartment.

This makes me think I can simply buy some sort of DVR and put it infront of my main TV to be able to record shows? If so what are the best options, I don't want to spend lots, HD recording would be a plus.

Anyone can get a DVR and use it as a component input on their TV. It won't affect or change anything about your service. You're just adding another piece of equipment to the TV.
