I find pictures of 3 models, which one is which?

I read the old model is better than the new model. Which one of these photos is the one to buy????????

Hi, Gary:

• The first link points to a picture of the old CM 4228A, which was discontinued nearly two years ago. New units have been out of stock everywhere for nearly as long; used examples show up on Flea-Bay now and again. It's definitely the one to buy if you can find one in good condition and at a reasonable price.

• The second link isn't a 4228 at all, it's an AntennaCraft U-8000. While a decent UHF performer, the U-8000 has no VHF high band performance to speak of and won't be as durable outdoors as either the old or new 4228s.

• The last link is the current Channel Master model, the 4228HD. It's a good antenna, but performance is not up to par with the 4228A.

The middle link is for an Antennacraft, not a CM.

The other two are for the CM4228HD. The original 4228 was discontinued in 2008 and it is unlikely you will find one in stock anywhere.

Agreed. I'm using an Antennacraft U4000 and it picks up both WCPO 9 and WKEF 12 out of Cincinnati with the U4000 antenna at 20' high outdoors. Each station is about 48 miles away and running about 15.5kw of power.

Sometimes WCPO doesn't come in (I think it's the station) but WKEF comes in 24/7. The U4000 can do it so I don't see any reason that the U8000 wouldn't since the U8000 is just two U4000's combined.

Until there's a comprehensive field test (hint hint) of the Antennacraft U8000 we'll never know. The UHF shootouts only review the physically similar Winegard which seems to have little or no VHF capability.
