Comcast DVR Purchase

I don't like renting things and especially with the fee that Comcast tacks on to my bill each month for their DVR. Is there a way I can buy a DVR and use it instead of renting?

You can certainly buy your own DVD Video Recorder but it's not exactly like having a cable DVR device. To my knowledge, you can't get that on your own, but as I said, you can easily buy a recorder, set it, and record onto DVDs regularly.

As far as I know Comcast won't activate a privately procured Motorola or Cisco/Scientific Atlanta DVR (most out there are stolen or obsolete), and they won't sell them, at least not to the general population. But, you can get a Cable Card from Comcast and use it with a TiVo or eventually a Ceton Q.
