How is comcast different to charter which is another internet provider, what is more preferred and why? To me they both seem like the same, then again I prefer charter because the prices seem to be better for a package.

People pick Comast or Charter because only one of them serves their area. I've never heard of Comcast and Charter serving the same area.

If you really do have a choice, I'd say go with Charter.
I've never personally used them, but, you could do worse, a LOT worse !

Have a good Day ! :)

I don't have a choice here between Charter and Comcast, but if I did, with the way Comcast has been consistently messing up, I would say Charter just based on that alone...and the fact that it usually takes 30 minutes in my area just to get in touch with technical support.

I'm not a big fan of Comcast per se, but apparently I have it better than you guys. I don't have those wait time issues at all. I've done my share of complaining but except for programming, which I'm ignored about, usually things get handled. Of course, I take it to supervisors and their supervisors if necessary.

I've also noticed these hidden fees (well not so hidden when the bill comes out) that they never told me about until I already signed up for the package. I can't believe there isn't a way to just buy your own cable modem instead of having to pay Comcast an extra $8.00 a month to rent theirs.

As a Charter user I can tell you that charter is highly problematic. When I called Charter for internet problems they told me that it mas my fault and that my modem was to old (I've had it for a year while it is not top of the line it is very high quality). When I finally got them to come out and check for the problem they realized that it was a faulty cable and replaced. Then I had the same problem less than a week later and they had to come out again and this time they found a faulty splitter. In addition to these problems charter has consistently been malfunctioning in the 5 years or so I've had it. I can't even remember the number of times I've had to stay up late trying to fix my internet so I could finish a research project, do college applications, and or just get some work done.

Charter charges for about half of what comcast does. I was able to get 100MB/s for 80 a month with charter and almost 0 down time and 0 packetloss. Comcast Charges 199 for the same package and you get nothing but headaches and down time. Comcast has been out 3 times and now for an entire weekend and i've only had it a month. Go with charter hands down. If comcast customers knew how much they could get internet for with other cable providers they'd be in shock

I have used both Comcast and Charter. I currently use Charter only because it is the only cable service offered in my area. If you have the choice, never use Charter. They are the worst TV/Internet provider I have ever used. Their customer service is horrible (with the exception of their customer service via Twitter,) their internet is faulty, and they constantly remove channels from their service (particularly channels that I often watch such as E!, Bravo, Travel Channel, Style, and many others.) I am moving in August and have decided that I will have to settle with AT&T U-Verse.

I have both available and I can tell you that they both have problems. The customer service is equally bad - but I would have to say charter is slightly better. As far as the internet connection goes - I have had very bad problems with Comcast. I signed up for the 50Mbps service, however - I have yet to reach that speed. There are exceptionally long waits to start queuing movies via the internet (AppleTV) and even high latency related issues on other websites. So for quality of connection - again, Charter has been better. This is in Atlanta Metro area. Your mileage may vary.

Whither the promised download speed?

Comcast promised the Moon and all we got was cut cheese..... so far. 1st we had a real SNAFU getting the old fone # 'ported' transferred to the new service then a week later some bean-counter in another hemisphere noticed that the fone # (original fone #) associated wit our service was no longer valid (ATT's fault - - - A-gin) soooooo...... ALL phone service to the house was cut off. NINE days later the tech FINALLY arrived but stomped out when he demanded that we had the wrong router.... the router that Comcast had SPECIALLY delivered via Next-Day-Air. Seems that they were using my office/work # for the pre-visit call number an' when no one answered - - - they cancelled the service call- - - - - for the better part of TWO WEEKS.... regardless of instructions to come anyway.
STILL less than 1 MPS from a promised 20 Mps service. I even got proofs.
Complaining to COMCAST might as well be in Swahili or Hindi 'cause it did absolutely no good AT ALL. Finally a few rationally put complaints to the FCC and the BBB got a response back from .... some.... one. The Latest tech arrived and Whattya know... the outside line from Pole-to-pole is only an RG 58U whereas it should have been an R601+ or better. ... an' he's not 'ALLOWED' to change out the node to service lines; that's to be done only by contractors.
Eventually.... we MAY get a reasonable Internet connection but I am not gonna hold my breath.

Charter was off line for over four hours last night. Again! No TV. No internet. I was told it was a "regional outage". More like a regional outrage. This happens frequently here in north central Illinois. I'm considering DSL. I don't play video games on line, so high speed is not a necessity. When (not if) another outage occurs, I will at least have internet access. I had satellite in Texas, on the gulf coast where we had a lot of storms. I almost never had a problem with reception. Why can't Charter deliver consistently?
