20th Century Fox Television has just announced that its hit series Glee will not start production until sometime in August. Ultimately, this also pushes back its scheduled fifth season premier date on the Fox Network. It is due, of course, to the unexpected and tragic date of Glee mainstay, Cory Monteith, who starred as Finn Hudson on the musical drama.

Monteith, 31, was found dead in his hotel room in Vancouver on July 13th. The resultant media frenzy fast-tracked his autopsy that revealed the cause of death to be a combination of heroin and alcohol. More detailed tests are being done. The popular actor apparently had demons where drugs and addiction were concerned, but reportedly, he was working hard to overcome them. Director Adam Shankman said in an interview said he had spoken to Monteith several times before his death and that the actor sounded good. He told CNN, “I had several interactions with him yesterday where he said that he was doing amazing. He even said I am feeling fantastic. I’m like everybody else, really devastated and confused by what happened.”

Co-star Jane Lynch called Monteith "a giving spirit" Wednesday evening when she appeared on The Tonight Show. Previously, an emotional Matthew Morrison began his caberet performance in New York City by saying, "You guys came to see a show, I came to perform a show, so that's what we'll do. And we'll do it in Cory's honor." As for Monteith's closest co-star and sometimes girlfriend, Lea Michele, she has maintained a quiet profile, releasing a statement through a representative that indicated she was working with Monteith's family on funeral arrangements and including the obligatory, "We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea's privacy during this devastating time" request.

Glee was originally slated to premier on September 19, later even than most had guessed. The new return date is September 26. According to Variety, episodes of Dads and Brooklyn Nine-Nine will air in its place until that date.
