Do DVR disk scans actually fix problems found? - DirecTV

I was having problems (hitches and glitches) with my HR44 Genie DVR. This forum suggested that I run the diagnostics scans which I did. The "short test" passed. The "long test" failed. But, interestingly, I've been watching recorded content for the past couple of days now (several hours) without a single hitch or glitch, since that last scan.

Can someone confirm that these scans do indeed attempt fix problems/errors found? I'm cautiously optimistic that my issue may have been resolved by running the scan.
