Drones and Movie-Making

Hollywood wants the FAA to quickly decide to allow drones for film making. UAVs, unmanned vehicle systems, are waiting for approval for use by film makers who argue they are safer and more economical than other methods.

But federal law prohibits drone in public airspace use unless it has FAA approval and a certified pilot. The Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International says the FAA should grant an exemption for small drones used in films and get on with setting real rules. Seems the FAA is about three years behind the whole drone development and commercial use approval process.
