Hi,

I installed 2 DTA's today but I can't get the remote to control the Philips Magnavox TV/VCR combo unit. This tv was made in 1999 and should be replaced but it still works fine. I tried all the Philips codes and all the Magnavox codes and none of them worked. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks -

Paul

No, those don't work. I should be more clear...

I installed the Comcast DTA for the changeover to the new digital cable. The DTA is now the tuner for my TV and has a remote associated with it. The TV in question is the Philips Magnavox TV/VCR combination. So I am trying to get the Comcast remote control to work the TV/VCR power and volume. The codes are 5 digit codes. I tried all of the Philips codes and Magnavox codes that came with the remote but none of them worked.

Thanks - Paul

Have you been able to find anything yet?

No. I tried searching for VCR codes but they all begin with the number 2. The Comcast codes all begin with the number 1. When I enter the first digit 2 it seems to stop the code entry sequence. The digits beyond the 2 make the remote transmit keystrokes instead of saving the code. So 2 series numbers are not accepted by the remote.

Is it possible that it just can't be done?

As above, I'm trying to get my new Comcast DTA remote to work with my Philips CCB130AT02 TV/VCR. I have tried all the Philips codes with no success. Some said "That unit may have been built by Funai, the poorest of the Japanese electronics companies.
You might try any codes you find for the brands listed below, all of which are made by Funai:
Funai, Symphonic, Sylvania, Emerson, Aventura, Durabrand, ESA, Magnavox, INSIGNIA, Philips and Misakai", so I tried all the
Funai, Symphonic, Sylvania, Emerson, Aventura, Durabrand, ESA, Magnavox, INSIGNIA, Philips and Misakai codes, again with no success. Internet searches have not provided any help.

Dear Paul,

Please try 10054 and 10037. Codes 10037 (not in the usual Comcast remotes, but in the DTA remote) and 10054 provide the RC-5 protocol, device 0. This is very common protocol, and many brands of TVs use this setup code and almost always the same function codes. Please let us know what happened.

Grandpa_Reindeer;

"That unit may have been built by Funai, the poorest of the Japanese electronics companies.
Indeed, new Philips TV sets are made by FUNAI. Philips sold all its TV manufacturing and brand to FUNAI about 2008. I have a new Sylvania TV built by Funai, and none of the codes for several older remote controllers would work. My solution was to buy a Learning Remote for about $15 and learning all the functions off the original remote for the TV and using codes for all other devices (STB, DVD, etc).

And I've found that the quality of most of Funai's stuff is pretty good, but they are just a bit quirky - some unusual menu options and a lot of issues with remote codes.
