DTV PAL DVR and IR to UHF remote

I am new to this forum and to dtv. I just hooked up my dtvpal dvr today and so far I love it. Having used a dish network dvr for years, I will probably miss having multiple tv outputs. I have split the signal to a second tv in my bedroom, but the IR remote won't work beyond line of site. I see Dish makes an IR to UHF remote kit. Does anyone know if this works with the dvrpal dvr? Or do the IR remote extenders really work? The unit is in my basement, while the bedroom is on the next floor and across the house. Any input will be appreciated, Bjorn

Also, does anyone know if my old dish dvr remotes can be reprogrammed to work with the pal? They look identical other than one being the ir/uhf and one being ir only.

bjorn773, Welcome to the DTVUSA Forum. The IR extenders work pretty good. The dish DVR remote will work for your pal. Good Luck!

You can use two TVs with it and use an IR extender but you will only be able to view one channel at a time on both TVs. if someone changes a channel it changes it on both TVs.

I wish they'd issue a box that has the UHF 1 and 2 remotes, so you can have independent viewing of two TVs but one box.

You shouldn't have to reprogram the Dish remotes. they work by default since it's Dish Network. uses the same software even.

No, I have not tried that. I will tonight. I have a Terk IR extender that should arrive tomorrow. I already have two tv's tied to it. I do wish it had 2 independent outputs like my dish dvr, but I think we can live with it. I could put in a switch to allow one tv to watch live tv via the antenna, so we can watch different shows. It's a work in progress, I just got the new dvr two days ago. So far, I'm very happy. If the remote extender works like I hope it will, I will call dish and cancel my satellite. It will be nice to get rid of that $45 a month.

I have tried pressing the SAT button on a 6.3IR remote to try to turn the power on a DTVPal DVR. No luck. Does anybody think that is because my broken remote for the unit was 5.3IR? Or shouldn't that matter? What kind of remote model (besides the original) will turn a DTVPal DVR on?
