For more than one connection.

I have heard that if you have dish TV installed you can have programs only on one set.Is it really so and does that mean that each TV needs a separate dish?

Not so. Each TV would need their own separate tuner if you want to watch different shows on different sets but they all work off the same dish(s).

There is a limit of 6 tuners or 4 receivers per household. In other words, a couple of those receivers can have more than one tuner and they would run more than one TV via a back feed to TV2 and a UHF remote control in the room with the remote TV.
