The latest celebrity to die from the killer disease pancreatic cancer is actress/comedian Bonnie Franklin. The independent redhead passed away on March 1. She was just 69 when complications from the cancer caused her demise while in her home.

Other beloved stars to pass of pancreatic cancer include Bonanza's Michael Landon and Dirty Dancing's Patrick Swayze. The list is much longer, though, which is part of the reason why Swayze's widow, Lisa, continues to work hard to promote awareness and research into the dreaded disease. Most die within a year of being diagnosed. Indeed, Franklin's diagnosis came just last September.

Franklin is best known for her role as Ann Romano on the sitcom One Day at a Time. The 1970s Norman Lear program that focused on a divorced woman raising her two teenage daughters lasted nine seasons.

According to the IMDB, her last appearance on television was an uncredited episode of The Young and the Restless in 2012. In 2011, she was reunited with her One Day at a Time TV daughter, Valerie Bertinelli, on that actress's comedy Hot in Cleveland. One of Franklin's most powerful roles was that of birth control advocate Margaret Sanger in Portrait of a Rebel: The Remarkable Mrs. Sanger.

Once divorced and then widowed, Franklin had no children.
